President’s Welcome
For many years now the Annual Conference of the Association of Education & Library Boards has been a major event for the education community in Northern Ireland. Hopefully, you already have the 2009 Conference in your diary for 19-20 November 2009 at the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle. The Conference Theme this year is ‘School Improvement through Effective School Governance’ which is a very relevant topic for the current period in education. The Department of Education’s policy ‘Every School A Good School’ (April 2009) sets the context for schools to meet the needs and aspirations of young people through high quality teaching and learning. This puts forward a vision where there is sound governance, effective leadership and a focus on the needs and outcomes of children and young people. It emphasises that strong and effective governance and leadership within schools maintains and improves standards. The Conference is privileged to have a selection of excellent speakers to address this theme including:-
As well as formal aspects of the Conference there are a number of school performances throughout the two days and The Rev the Lord Griffiths of Pembrey and Burry Port is confirmed as the after dinner speaker on the first evening. I look forward to welcoming you. Rev Selwoode Graham, MBE, BA, Dip Ed (QUB), BD, MA ( TCD)
