President’s Welcome For many in the Northern Ireland education community the Annual Conference of the Association of Education and Library Boards has been a recurring diary entry. It is my hope that you already plan to attend the 2011 Conference on Thursday, 17 November in Stranmillis University College, Belfast. The Conference theme: “Governance and Accountability in Education” is a relevant topic for the current period in education. The Department of Education’s policy on school improvement, “Every School A Good School”, promotes a vision of an education system where there is sound governance, effective leadership, high quality teaching and learning, good quality outcomes and above all focus on the needs and aspirations of children and young people.
